Get ready for gas prices to jack up this summer. Oil is going for $60/gallon and with India and China ratcheting up imports there is no reason to believe we will see gas under $2/gallon again.

Cheney is blathering on about how the insurgency is in its "last throes" and said on CNN last night, "We will succeed in Iraq, just like we did in Afghanistan." The problem is that we have not been successful in Afghanistan. Sure, there was good initial success, but outside of Kabul the country has always remained under warlord control. According to the U.S. State Department, Afghanistan is now harvesting record opium poppy crops which is used to produce herion . More alarmingly, violence is increasing and it appears that the Taliban and al Qaeda are regrouping and re-establishing themselves.

Oh yeah, we never caught Mullah Omar who was the leader of the Talliban and there is the fact that Osama bin Forgotten is still on the loose.

What is Cheney talking about? We never finished the job in Afghanistan and it is now growing into a major problem. If you call Afghanistan a "success" then I guess Iraq looks like it is "succeeding." Whatever!

Iraq Insurgency is Strong?

What? Iraq's insurgents are still strong and are growing in number? I thought Cheney said things were going great against the insurgency? Gasp! You mean he lied to the American people - is it possible? What a Dick!

Of course all of the Iraq nonsense is hurting recruiting, so the Pentagon is going to put all 16-18 year old Americans into a database so they can increase their recruiting yield. If you love Big Brother government, you yhave to love the Bush administration.

Remember Afghanistan? Is it just me, or does it seem like things are starting to spiral out of control there? We never finished the job before Bush sent troops to Iraq, and now it looks like a very bad situation is brewing. We just don't have the troops to fight in both countries, let alone Iran or North Korea or wherever the heck Bush wants to go next.

Bubbling Troubles for Bush

Looks like more evidence of Bush's intent to go to war long before the Iraq invasion is starting to emerge. As casualties and costs continue to mount and the American people continue to sour on the whole Iraq mess don't be surprised if Bush really pays a price. Of course, my opinion is that an investigation should be conducted and if it is true that Bush knowingly cherry-picked evidence to take the country to war he should be impeached.

Bush Education Plan

Here is a little known provision of President Bush's No Child Left Behind Act - school districts are required to provide military recruiters with student phone numbers and addresses or risk losing millions in federal education funding. I guess that is one way to help improve recruiting.

Bush's Social Security Reform is Dead

Looks like the Republican Congress wants out of Bush's SS reform. Bush has failed in his efforts to dupe the American people out of SS. Some tweaking is certainly necessary, but the radical reform of the President is just about dead.

This just contributes to the President's sliding poll numbers.

Iraq Nonsense

Over 1700 Americans killed, almost 13,000 injured, and for what? The military is struggling to recruit. Not surprising given that it appears that the new mission of the military is no longer the defense of the U.S., it has become delivering freedom to parts of the world that the President chooses. On top of all this, American taxpayers are taking a bath on this nonsense. It is no wonder that a bi-partisan group of congressmen want Bush to set objectives for victory in Iraq and a timetable for the return of our troops.

With all of this nonsense going on, at least some members of Congress are exercising their constitutional responsibility to provide oversight over the Executive Branch. The Downing Street Memo which was circulated at the highest levels of the British government essentially states that at least 8 months prior to the U.S. invasion of Iraq, " Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy."

Bush changes findings on Global Warming

The White House is at it again - doctoring up evidence to support their (wrong) viewpoint. They don't believe Global Warming is a problem and want to protect Big Oil so they change government scientists'e findings to suit their needs.

Problem is that most Americans either don't know or don't care that they are being lied to.

Why military recruiting is down

Being a soldier, particularly a National Guardsman or Reservist, is tough enough with multiple deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. The uncertainty is terrible, but unfortunately there are prices that our soldiers are paying after the war including job losses/illegal firings as well as increased stress on the family which often leads to divorce. The stats are showing soldiers are divorce rates are way up - not surprising given the stress and long separations.

It's no wonder that recruiting is suffering. Add to this that there are no WMDs and Saddam has been captured so Iraq poses no direct threat to the U.S. It's not like the pay is that great, so unless you are a humanitarian and want to rebuild a foreign country while getting shot at, the opportunity costs are much too high.

Is Taylor on the way out? Looks like it given his latest off-field antics. The Redskins should have some pride and let the guy go. So what if he becomes a star somewhere else - the risk and the aggravation just are not worth it.

Growing Health Insurance Problem

A new report is out which shows that since Bush took office about 7 million more Americans have lost their health coverage and are now uninsured (48 million total). Hospitals and doctors don't "eat" the losses caused by treating people who cannot pay, they just charge those with insurance more. The additional cost of paying for the uninsured comes to $922/year for families and employers. This is why health insurance is the number one problem in America. It is costing every working American and business with a health plan a significant additional burdon.

For more info, look at the Census Bureau's 2003 report which shows that since Bush took office 5 million more Americans have fallen into poverty and through the first three years of his presidency 4 million Americans had lost their health care.

Rambo discussion continued

Day 1362.

How about this for an idea - get Arnold to reprise his role as "Dutch" in Predator. Except that Dutch is now assimilated into the tapestry of America through a CIA relocation program. Turns out that Rambo is in the same program and they are in the same suburb outside of Chicago. They run into each other at a grocery store and both have a flashback when they see a former Russian KGB officer that they tangled with in 'Nam feeling up a head of lettuce. The Russian KGB officer can be played by Sean Connery who was so effective in the Hunt for Red October. One thing leads to another and the boys end up in a series of chases, fights, tank battles, etc. in the streets of downtown Chicago.

For comic relief bring in Rob Schneider and Jim Belushi (Rob worked with Sly in Judge Dredd and Jim with Arnie in Red Heat), as CIA operatives who are responsible for watching over Sly and Dutch but who are incompetent. I know it is rough at this point, but hey it's a start. Out!

Fox News Admits Bias!

Oops a Fox New Executive slipped up. For those few people who actually believe Fox News is "Fair and Balanced" think again.

I would have no problem with Fox News if they would just admit what they are - a mouthpiece for the Administration. Instead they pretend to be neutral.

Rumsfeld warns China

Bush is concerned about China's military buildup. What will he do about it? Nothing.

We buy so much stuff from China it is ridiculous. The United States ran up a $162 billion deficit in goods with China last year, the largest ever with any country. In fact the current account deficit (which includes the trade deficit) has exploded under Bush and is threatening American economic security. Unbelievably, last year $600 billion - or almost 6 percent of our GDP - more than what flows into the country flows out of the country. This was an all time record and the figures for 2005 are looking worse because of rising oil import prices. This is unsustainable over a long period of time.

The U.S. owes foreign investors about $2 trillion - about $1 trillion to Japan and China. It is literally the case that Japan and China is letting us borrow money so that we can buy their stuff. Is that messed up or what?

One month does not the economy make so we will have to see the general trend. There is one good thing that may result - interest rate increases may slow. However, if the housing bubble pops all bets are off. We'll just have to see.

Social Security Nonsense

You want to know what is wrong with the President's SS B.S.? Just follow the comments I posted and the responses on the subject at the Conservative Eyes Blog the last couple of days. The Bush lovers just don't know the facts. SS is not going to be in bankruptcy but it does need some tweaking. We are talking about a problem that hits in 50 years - what about the 45 million Americans that don't have health care today? Hope you enjoy the discussion.

He looks a bit crazy and his erratic behavior has DreamWorks executives cutting back his promotional interview schedule leading up to the release of WAR OF THE WORLDS. To be honest I don't really care that much but I do find it amusing. Hopefully the movie will be good.

Military Intelligence in Iraq

Wondering about how things are really going in Iraq? Check out the following exchange from last Sunday between Chris Wallace of Fox News Sunday and General Richard Myers, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff:

WALLACE: There have been conflicting reports all week about terrorist leader Abu Musab Al-Zarqawi, whether he's alive or he's dead. The Iraqi interior minister says that he's been injured. There's a new report today that says that he's suffered serious chest wounds, and is in Iran. What can you tell us?

MYERS: What we've seen is postings on their web site that, in fact, he's been injured. Because we follow these web sites, we tend to believe that that's probably true. We don't know more than that right now. . .

WALLACE: I am curious, though, because I know there have been these reports on the web sites and some people say it might be disinformation, it might be signs of a power struggle. You're saying that you tend to believe that he has been seriously injured?

MYERS: Well, I don't know if seriously. We tend to believe what is said on the web site, and that is that he's been injured. . .

So the best intelligence the U.S. Military has on Abu Musab al-Zarqawi after 2+ years of war comes from his website. Man, is that pathetic or what? Even if it was true, Myers sounded foolish saying it could have answered the question better. For the full transcript CLICK HERE.
