Disappointing Bears Effort

Too many mistakes to win. The offensive line was weak. Cutler was sacked 7 times, but at least four of them were coverage sacks - Cutler has to throw it away. Clearly, Jay Cutler was terrible - you cannot throw late especially across the middle Jay! The play calling was debatable, but there were drops and poor execution by a lot of players. Brandon Marshall dropped a fairly routine TD. A couple of critical penalties (Carimi's unnecessary roughness and the 12 men on the field stand out). The D was pretty good but fell asleep on the fake field goal and Briggs dropped an interception - which were costly errors.

The Packers were better. But as bad as the Bears played, I still think they are a good team. They just made too many mistakes tonight. It was going to be tough going into Lambeau and winning. They have to get to work and get things straightened out. If they can beat St. Louis at Soldier Field in the next game then things will be fine.

You hit on most of it. To me it was a pretty poor game for both teams. Lots of mistakes. Lots of dropped balls.

At least for the Puckers, they were able to establish a run game and they committed to that. I didn't like late in the game when they were up big and could have taken time off the clock and they tried to pass. That gave the Pears some life. Still, the Pucker O line seems pretty poor and that could be their downfall this year.

As far as the Pears, O line isn't good. Safeties aren't great. The one guy that impressed me was Tim Jennings. I know he had the two INTs last week including the one great catch on that deep ball. He had another INT last night (although he seemed to be more the beneficiary of a poor route run by the WR) but he seemed very aggressive in his tackling. I thought he had a solid game.

The worst part of the Pears was Jay George. Obviously, his play was poor but what's most troubling is his attitude. That guy is an arrogant arse. I sometimes joke around about him being the second coming of Jeff George but he really seemed like Jeff George last night. He was more than happy to yell at players missing their assignments but he didn't seem to take much blame. His body language said it all. He made bad plays and then went to the sidelines and looked to just be pouting and disinterested. That's no leader.

I know that all QBs can get on their teammates for a missed blocking assigment or bad route. Heck, Rodgers did it last night. Brady does it. Romo does it. Several QBs do that. However, the big difference is that these same QBs can be seen on the sidelines rallying their teammates and getting them to believe that they will win. Cutler doesn't seem to do that. He just seems like an arrogant arse.

He came into the game arrogant challenging the GB DBs but he got stymied. There is a fine line between cockiness and arrogance and I think all QBs have to have a touch of cockiness to be great. However, Cutler just seems arrogant. From his pregame comments to his behavior during the game to his telling his home fans to "shut up," he just seems like an arse to play with. I don't know what his teammates think of him but a few more games like that and no one will want to put up with his shenanigans.

It was a bad game but it was only one game so no sense in getting too wound up about it. It's the Rams at home next week and that is a must win game for the Pears if they want to get back on track.

Taunting an opposing team is a bonehead move. Just fuels the other team. The Packers defense was great. Cant say enough about Clay Matthews 3.5 sacks and that secondary that kept B Marsh without a catch for 3/4 of the game. Its really important for the defense to support the offense that is adjusting to a new offensive coordinator and a new running back. They have to remain stout for the Packers to keep pace the NFC elite.
What is up with Jay Cutler? This guy is like a white, qb version of T.O. I dont think he has the right leadership skills to lead a team to a championship. Interesting to see how the team handles this and if it gets worse. Could derail the locker room.

I was horribly disappointed in the offensive game plan and execution by pretty much everyone on the offense. They should have run the ball more to set up the pass and control the pass rush. The O-line and backs needs to protect better. Receivers can't drop balls. But most of all, Jay Cutler has to play better and make better decisions. Throw the ball away and live for another day. Stop throwing the ball late across the middle. That is just bad decision-making and it killed any chance the Bears had.
